Manual handling occurs in almost every workplace and at any one time someone will be moving objects as part of their every day work activities.

Work-related accidents result in around 6 million lost working days each year, with back injuries continuing to account for a high proportion of these. Manual handling activities cause more than one-third of all injuries lasting over three days that are reported each year in the UK. Manual handling activities are covered by specific legislation (Manual Handling Operations Regulations) which places obligations on employers and employees to try to reduce the number of employees being injured through lifting and moving loads at work.

Course Content

All bespoke courses can be tailored to business and individual needs and typically the content of the course will cover the following topics:

 

  • The Manual Handling Operations Regulations
  • Employer/employee roles and responsibilities
  • Typical hazards associated with lifting and handling
  • The structure of the back
  • Causes of injuries
  • Correct posture
  • Safe lifting technique and use of mechanical aids
  • Introduction to manual handling assessment.

 

Who is it For?

This course is designed for anyone involved in manual handling activities or managing these activities as part of their daily work and can include Managers, Supervisors, Safety Reps and all employees.

Course duration

This course can be delivered in three to four hours and will be conducted on the clients' site to enable delegates to practice their lifting technique in the surroundings and with the equipment they use on a daily basis.

Certification

Delegates will be awarded a NorthgateArinso Employer Services certificate of attendance.
