Belbin Team Roles Training

Belbin® Team Roles Behavioural Profile

Introduction

What makes a successful team? How does each individual contribute? What roles need to be fulfilled? Understanding the answers to these questions is key to unlocking the potential of any team.

Based on the extensive work of Dr Meredith Belbin and his research team at Henley Management College, Belbin Team Roles describes an individual's preferred behaviour when working as part of a team. By determining individual team roles and gaining a thorough understanding of the contribution each person is able to make, the team's flexibility and potential to meet the demands placed upon it can be maximised.

How does it work?

Belbin Team Roles determines an individual's preferred contribution in team and group situations based on 9 distinct roles:

  • Plant
  • Teamworker
  • Resource Investigator
  • Implementer
  • Co-ordinator
  • Completer Finisher
  • Shaper
  • Specialist
  • Monitor Evaluator

The questionnaire takes about 15 minutes to complete online. From the in-depth report this generates, our accredited Belbin facilitator is able to guide individuals through the results, exploring the strengths of their preferred style and highlighting areas of potential development. In addition to results from self-assessment, Team Role analysis can be further enhanced by 360o feedback in the form of observer assessments from colleagues and team members.

Who is it for?

Anyone who works as part of a team and wants to gain a greater understanding of how they work in a group situation. Belbin Team Roles is especially useful for determining an existing team's preferred styles in order to improve their performance and can also be used in the recruitment process.

"A tendency to behave, contribute and interrelate with others in a particular way." - Dr Meredith Belbin.
